African Influences on Western Dress!

Abena! (My African Queen)

African influences on western dress

Seems like the more I research, I find out how African influences tie into things. Well from the African country we get this and this and this
to add up to this. So the question is how does Africa influence
western dress?

Heard of resist dyeing? Resist Dyeing is a series of methods or
devices to protect parts of a cloth while letting others take the dye.
It results in quite spectacular cloths that are very popular in West Africa. Very common methods are tie-dye,sew and dye, and the use of paste resist.

In tie dyeing, intricate patterns are made by tying small areas with cotton or raffia strings or the cloth may be either folded or crumpled before dyeing. Designs may be sewn on the cloth and the stitches later picked out after dyeing to reveal a light or dark pattern.

As far as African American Dress in the 1960s,
THe 1960s was a decade loaded with movements and revolutions:
The Equal Rights Movement, THe Hippie MOvement, The Youth
Movement, The Peacock Fashion Revolution, The Black Power Movement, and the Civil Rights Movement.

All these movements were in response to differentiations in democracy, the US practiced and the unequal treatment for minorities and women.

Fashions were like a mirror image of the social instability of this
decade;hemlines rose and men grew tired of the gray flannel suit.

By 1965, the new look for women was the mini skirt. Men were
typically more fashion forward, trying out different colors, sumptuous fabrics, ruffles, and lace. Many of the contemporary fashions were made from manufactured fibers in knitted fabrics.

On the other hand, denim became a very important symbol of
protest against the establishment. Denim was faded, embroidered,
patched, appliqued, and sequined. Oh and these slogans were worn, "Make Love NOt War", "Peace", "Black Power", "Black is
Beautiful" to get their point across.

In the mid 60s, more of our Black people began to have racial pride and ethnic consciousness. This came from the Civil RIghts Movement of Dr. Martin Luther King.Civil Rights Movement were aggressive expressions of African Americans dissatisfaction with societies practice of discrimination.

The authors Mead and Pederson examined periodicals (Ebony,
Mademoiselle, Time and Life) for evidence of West African textiles used in US apparel.

More examples of West African textiles were found in Ebony
during the 1960s. In 1970s, African textiles transferred into
mainstream American fashions and showed up in Mademoiselle.

African textiles were used in US apparel, appropriate for
US cultural norms and not the same norms of the AFrican culture from which the textiles came from.

African AMericans adopted the dashiki, a loose, tunic style
garment that has motifs on the neck opening and outer borders.
West African textiles were used for US textiles. In the 1960s, the
kente cloth was the ONLY type of African fabric in use.

The caftan designed on the page at the site is by Thea Porter,
an 1960s English designer, inspired very much by northern Africa.

I love African inspired clothes so much I would sport them and take
pictures of them. The styles of AFrican clothing on the site are very delightful and relaxing on the eyes.

Part 2 with this drunk driving thing, be responsible not to do it! Plus, a listing of DUI laws by state!

experiment

If you be responsible, you
will see the rainbow, or a better day!!

Part 2:Drunk driving laws by state! Every state has their own rules!

Each state has their own rules on drunk driving. I never
really thought about that but, now I know today. So
I'm glad I know so I can inform others.

In Alabama, a person cannot drive with a blood alcohol level
of .08% or higher. Oh and the person does not have
to be driving to get arrested for a Dui. If you are
in control of a vehicle, if it's not moving, you can
be charged with drunk driving.

1 year in jail

A required $100 donation to Imparied

Drivers Trust fund,

Alcohol assessment and evaluation,

Possible alcohol treatment program,

$600 and $2,100 in
fines.

For First offenders on dui- 90 days
Second offenders get 1 year
Third offenders get 3 years
Fourth offenders -get 5 years
The consequences of dui are just ugly yall.

Here in Michigan, here are the consequences!:

First, the drunk driver could end up with a Misdemeanor charge
A person could getUp to $500 in fines plus court costs
The drunk driver could spend 93 days in jail
Also, the drunk driver can get Up to 45 days of community service
In addition, this person will have to take Alcohol education courses
Oh, but it's wise to not just stop at Michigan and Alabama. Go to your
state or any other state you like. Each state is listed on it's DUI Laws.
Let's avoid driving under the influence. And don't get confused people,
buzzed driving is drunk driving. Now here is a listing of DUI laws by
state here:

http://www.duiconsequences.com/

Buzzed in the first place implies
someone's high, but even just a little bit or really high
will never be worth the risk people!

Check and see if this program is available in YOUR state!

Since I hear about so many cases of drunk driving, let me inform people about the STRICTER consequences of DUI’s!

THE SILENCE OF RAIN

In order to save the world, sometimes you must be warned.
Others will be so stubborn and not listen, but I hope the world gets
saved. I have been hearing about people who drink and drive. It is
not responsible and it is also dangerous.

Me personally, I don't drink at all. Getting drunk is not a great
thing to do anyways. I've always wanted to be conscious and aware
of my surroundings and I would never drink and drive no matter
what. But again like I said, I don't drink any alcohol anyways.

I know people may be unhappy or just trying to have fun but
it's time to avoid drunk driving. Don't be a statistic. No one has
to be. Call a cab, call a friend, call a family member, just don't
drink and drive.

Drunk driving consequences are getting MORE SERIOUS
so I will just warn you all. The fines and penalties are bigger
now. You never know how much one day, or one night, can make
people's lives troublesome.

Based on the information I read on the website, drunk driving
can hold you up or slow you up. And isn't life hard enough without
more consequences? Hey, I'm just trying to reach someone's mind.

Drunk driving can get people jail time. NOt only that, there are
court costs,
loss of job income(and we know in these economic
hard times it is especially tragic to lose a job). Plus, the person
would be looking at
attorneys fees,
increased insurance rates,
car impound and towing fees,
loss of driving priviledges,
cost of drivers education classes,
cost and inconvenience of ignition interlock
device installed on car,
community service time, and killing or
hurting someone.

Well sometimes I wonder, are people seeing the whole picture
or just parts of the picture? Or are they seeing just 10% of the picture?
WHatever amount they see, they need to really adjust their focus
to the whole picture.ANy drunk driver should take into mind
these facts? It's not worth it.

Suppose a drunk driver wants
to go to college and work, then they end up losing their job
and they cannot be independent anymore. Really drunk
driving is not worth taking a person's life or hurting someone,
or getting hurt. And also, it's NOT worth the money. So you
can save a life and save your money.

It is wise for the drunk person to get
a cab ride, a ride from a friend,or
family member. Also, you can try this

Visuals of the Glass Showers are the perfect example of showering and bathing in luxury!!!

Bathroom Shower / Bathtub Combination

I have been touring houses since I was a kid. There's been years since I toured houses but I have started back again. The opportunity presented itself.

House 1, the above glass shower to me looks like a space shuttle.

Doesn't it make your mind just
wonder? The cabinets are a
light brown complimenting the
textures. I want to go there
wherever this is.

Prizma - Glass Bathtub

House 2, The Glass
Shower once again…..IT is
called the Prizma Glass Bathtub!!! And you can see why,
just like a prism is clear, it is as
clear as a prism.

Out of all my 22 years, I have not ever seen a glass tub. That just goes to show you that people are always thinking about designing and doing it better.

Marble Tiles

House
3,The Marble Tiles Glass Shower Door.
The definition of a regular
shower is just a shower head with
the levers, tub,etc. But when
you step into a glass shower you
stepped into a new zone. Nothing
like a shower like this, especially
with levers. Oh and a shower like
this looks like a life size gadget..

Master Shower

House
4,The Master Shower, that’s what they call it.

It’s like a house inside a house. It’s
set up where you can put shower
bathing items. I love it.

Glass tile shower

House 5 shows Another
Glass Shower……..

This is one of my many
favorite aspects of houses.

IT’s of marble texture. I could just
imagine rubbing my hands across
that texture.

Master Bath with Roman Tub and Glass Block Window, Oversized Shower and Private Water Closet. Dual Sinks and Upgraded Cherry Cabinets

House 6,The PRivate Water Closet......

I just want to jump right in.
The glass next to it looks like
a glass shower. Imagine, the
room to just stretch your legs
and arms and not see all this
plain,bland wall. It's more than
a dream. For some it will be made
true.What a blessing!

High Tech Shower

House 7, Black/Silver Coordinated Glass
Shower………

This particular shower is perfect for
two people because of the double
shower heads or a person could
shower on the left one day, shower
on the right side the other day.

I want
to take a look inside those houses!!

Tips on how to dry our nail polish faster, but not lose moisture in nails!

365 days 1501 005

There are many categories we women care about in how we look:hair, nails, clothes, toes. But rightnow I would like to get into the topic of nail care.

So many beautiful designs
for nails, it's like a shopping spree.
It makes people want to look through
catalogs who captured and collected
beautiful nails galore. It is so
easy to be a fashion addict when
you see more and more creative ways
to get your nails done, hair done,
clothes to wear.

But as far as nails go,
people do pay attention to the hands
quite a bit. It even makes one feel
good to see the most elegant designed
nails. But to wear them is the
most pleasure.

So, here we go, nail tips! They
have a place where you can ask the
expert. This makes me think that when
nail tips are submitted that the
expert must try them first before
they put them up or something.

Nail tip number 1:

It's the milk manicure. I been drinking
milk for a while. Now I can use it
for my nails. ha ha! IT was written
that you can put your nails in milk
for 5 to 10 minutes to make your hands
soft before you start your manicure.

Nail Care Tip 2:

For the white nails look, if you
want those yellow stains to vanish, put
yournails in warm soapy water with a
cup of hydrogen peroxide.

Nail Care Tip 3:

OH and for those discolored
nails, which just sounds annoying
put on your base coat while
using colored nail polish.
This prevents the colored polish
from coming in contact with the
nail.

Nail Care Tip 4:

Nail fungus-Avoid it this way:
Use antibacterial soap to clean your
nail tools and take your own tools
when you get a professional manicure.

Nail Care Tip 5:

Now for this tip, I've already
heard this on youtube and a few websites.
To dry your nails fast, go get you some
ice water and stick your hands in them.

Nail Care Tip 6:

For split nails,use a moisturizer
after washing your hands and use vitamins
to make your nails stronger.

Part 2 of nail care tips:

1. Wear gloves while washing dishes or
putting hands in detergent based liquids.

2. IT is best to avoid harsh metal files.

3. Use a hand and nail lotion with the
BEST quality, because dry nails split and
crack like eggs do.

4. The most convenient and favorable
time to file nails is after your
bath.Nails get so soft in that time.

5. Let the cuticle just be. Leave it
alone because it invites infection.

6. I got some vitamin E at home. Now I
know what I can use it for besides
the obvious. Put a hole in the vitamin
E and massage it's oil on your nail's
cuticles.

7. Protect your nails by adding a top
coat of clear nail polish to protect the
nail.

8. IF you use more than two coats of
nail polish, know this. The nail will
not get enough breathing space.

9. OH, and for the the NON brittle nails, it's best to USE an acetone-FREE nail polish remover. Acetone is good for DRYING and Making the nails brittle.

Encourage your weight down!!!!

My hair and weight are opposite, like two arrows going in different directions, Hair growing, weight thinning,

I flash my face and all I could show is me grinning, I consider my body to be an etched design,

click, click, click like photos on a camera and tick tick tick, it gets my mind going,

A new day for me, a day where I wear more of what looks good and is form fitting, I lost and I manage my weight likecontinuously hitting a target I want to be hitting,

The tears of emotional happiness rush like a sea, Such amazement takes over me, I've experienced that kinda loss most people wish they had, loss after loss in weight,

I'm watching those pounds and the dates,I'm taking the pounds off as if they were the smallest
set of weights,

When I exercise to the max as if I were doing my own fitness tape in a sporty way, The fat
melt off like butter right off of me,

Metabolism so revved
up it's like it should be spinning in circles, My fat was gone like water turned to a vapor, The weight I want,
I'm calling it out,

I've lost and I'm still working
on more lost, Fries are crisp to the
taste, but what I can taste even more is a skinny waist!.

Hair Sticks are the most beautiful and chic hair decorations!!

Hair Sticks

Chopsticks anyone? No I'm just kidding. These hair sticks I found
online are in great taste. So put
the emphasis on YOUR hairstyles.

There are silver metal hair sticks. They are set up to
your convenience so they will not tarnish. You can unwrap the wire
and add the beads of your choice.

Next, the Paua shell laminated hair sticks
have such sweet intricate patterns about 7 inches
long.

Third, the Black lip shell laminated hair sticks are created
with black lip shell laminated cemented onto a wooden stick
with a smooth look. Wood core is conveniently end drilled at
the side for attaching bead drops and charm dangles.

Can't Get Enough
I Just love those hairsticks!
