African American ballerina Lauren Anderson shows off her moves!

How graceful it is to be a ballerina!
It’s great workout for the
body and relaxing to watch.
We hear about Ballerinas,
but what stands out most
is the African American
ballerina.

African American Lauren Anderson is a ballerina.
She resides in the area of HOuston. Her years of
dancing Houson Ballet is from 1983 to 2006. She
has taken leading roles in great classical ballets, and
becoming HOuston Ballet’s most beloved stars.

By January 2007, Ms. Anderson began her new role
as outreach associate in Houston Ballet education
department where she taught ballet classes
at Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy.
Also, she conducts master classes at
area schools and lectures to students on
dance and she talks about her historic
career as an African American ballerina.

From the young age of 7, she trained at Houston
Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy. She
joined Houston Ballet in 1983 and in 1990
became the first African American to be
principal dancer at Houston Ballet.
And to add to that, she was one of the few
African American ballerinas at the head of a
major ballet company throughout the world.

To top that off, she received the Special
Jury Award at the 1990 International Ballet
Competition as well as the International
Critics Award in CHile.

Ms. Anderson danced with the top roles
in many classical ballets. You can find
her in works by George Balanchine, Sir
Kenneth MacMillan, Christopher Bruce,
James Kudelka, and Trey MCINtyre.
Ms. Anderson came up with the title
role in Ben Stevenson’s Cleopatra,
and her performance as Cleopatra
received so many praises from
international critics.

A note on Cleopatra, the Egyptians
were Black people anyways, so how
fitting of her to get that part. Christine Temin
of the Boston Globe described her as a
powerhouse in interpreting the role she
took. Lauren strutted her stuff in New YOrk,
Chile, Moscow, and Chicago.

By April 1999, Lauren was featured on the cover
of Dance Magazine. She’s been featured in
magazines like People and Pointe and tv
programs like A&E Breakfast With the Arts,
CBS News SUnday Morning, the Game Show
to Tell the Truth.

Her honors come from the Martin Luther King
Foundation, Coalition of 100 Black Women,
YWCA, by the Urban League, Delta Gamma
Foundation, Texas WOman’s Chamber of
COmmerce, HOuston City Council, and
the Texas Legislature.

Ms. Anderson is an honorary member of
ALpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She
has even been appointed Artist in Residence
of the Fine Arts Department at Texas Southern
University.

Genetics cause Black Athletes to run Faster and DO better than white athletes

Genetics cause Black Athletes to run Faster and DO better than white athletes

Collin in the Hurdles

Athletes have it made. They do what they love and burn calories

at the same time. There is so much convenience in that.

Plus excercize is good for the body and it helps to get your body

used to working with more energy. But now I will get right into

the athletic differences between Black and white athletes.

Genetics makes Black people run fast. Genetics give Black

people twitch fibres and more testosterone than whites.

Black athletes of West African

extraction run faster than

caucasians. Also, Black

Athletes from North and East

Africa have the advantage

of distance running.

Yes, yes there are successful
white athletes.

When it comes down to the

top 200 official times

at 100 metres, none of these

athletes doing that was

white. Black Sprinters

only have run under 10 seconds.

Now for the track record:

Power events that involve

short dynamic bursts of energy are

100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, triple

jump, 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles.

Black Athletes have world records

in all 7 major sprint events

including 2 team relays.

Kenyans won gold, silver, and

bronze medals in the 3,000m

at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

In 1886, Arthur WHarton, a

man from Ghana settle in North

England and became the first man

to run 100 yards in 10 seconds

in the AMateur Athletic Association

Championshps.

Beneath Black skin there is more

muscle and less fat. White athletes

have more fat and less muscle.

Research was carried out by the

Copanhagen Institute of Sports

Sciences on Kenyans from the

Kalenjin trube of the Great

Rift valley. It shows different

genetics that help them store

more oxygen in the body and lessen

fatigue. This helped them to

cope with hot conditons at

high altitudes.

So, the kalenjin

who was involved in trials posted

had faster running times over 800m

than White people at the same
fitness level.

Surya Bonaly

Surya Bonaly is 20 years old and is the powerful ice skater I”m talking about.Bonaly became a U.S. citizen in 1994 who is the ONLY and I mean ONLY

skater who can land a back flip on one foot on the ice

IT says so on this site:

http://www.championsonice.com/skaters/bio.php?useid=3

She has the most mind boggling moves and she takes skating to a higher

level. Her talent is something to embrace. What a beautiful scenery

with her skating! I’m so happy for Ms. Bonaly, she’s got that IN

YOUR FACE talent. The way she jumps over the air like she’s

light on her feet is truly superb.  Surya beautifies my screen

with her presence. Her skating is what I describe as spiffy and

deluxe.

           See her skate here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaCaOQwAZuY&feature=related

NExt is a site where they have pictures of her moves doing the SPlit-Jump

Triple Toe loop-double Toe loop out of a Walley entrance. Also,

you will see Surya nail a Triple Flip Jump, straightline footwork

sequence, triple-salchow-double toe combination and

a 1-footed backflip.  View them at this spot:

Oh how nice it is to learn these new terms for

skating. They are quite interesting.

Plus, here’s a clip of Ms. Bonaly doing multiple back flips on the

mat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lo183D8SGU&feature=related

I can see now she started gymnastics early.

View a collection of her fabulous skating moves in this montage here ( I ignore

the music someone on youtube added to the video montage) but the skating moves are wonderful:

Hmm….Well rounded, multi-talented…. He does what

he does and does it well!

Meredith Gourdine excelled in academics, atheletics, track and

field, as well as swimming. (Wonderful to see someone who can balance

both academics and schooling. Some people can only do one. But its

really really great if you can do both.)

                  Gourdine competed in sprints, hurdles,

and long jumps. He finished second place  at the 1952 NCA Track

and Field Championship. Meredith was chosen to

represent the United States at the 1952 Summer Olympics

Games in Helsinki, Finland. He was awarded a silver medal

in the long jump competition.

Meredith received a Bachelor’s Degree in

Engineering Physics in 1953. Gourdine got a loan of

$200,000,000 (look at the zeros go)  from family and friends and opened

Gourdine Laboratories(sounds so good), which is a research laboratory

located in Livingston, New Jersey and at its height he

employed 150 people.

Some people can say that they have a great career

and have that be true. But not everyone gets their own

laboratories. But I’m so glad this man did!

Gourdine had research in the field of electrogasdynamics.

and electrogasdynamics is the generation of energy from

the motion of ionized gas molecules under high pressure.

Meredith Gourdine was inducted into the Engineering

and Science Hall of Fame in 1994.

First African American Owned Private Swim Club began 1958 (still existing today)

                Clear water & Red Rock

THe Nile Swim Club is the nation’s first African American owned

private swim club. THey have announced that it has launched

a whopping $5 million expansion program involving other

amenities like the construction of 3 heated pools, an 18-hole miniature

golf course, a 150 seat banquet facility, and a fitness center as

well as basketball and tennis courts. (Wow! That’s really diverse.

That’s very convenient for those who want to add

other sports to their resume. So its like the perfect setup,

getting more access to sports at one place. Bravo Brilliant!)

The swim club is located in Pennsylvania and began

1958, a time era when Black people were denied admission

and membership ot the racilly exclusive and currently

defunct, Yeadon Swim Club.

( Well, definitely The Yeadon Swim Club is too shame.

They went on and started their own club because they

don’t need The Yeadon Swim Club. They still made it, but ofcourse.)

THe swim club’s opening was a very important story

of African American economic self-determination and

attracted alot of media coverage and got Harry Belafonte

and Motown’s Supremes to notice them.

Today, the club owns a 4.5 acre parcel of land and

has a membership of 210 families. The new faculty is being

designed by Buell Kratzer Powell LTD and Synterra LTD,

a African American owned landscape design firm. The facility

is planned to be complete in 2008.

The American Tennis Association-First Black Sports Organization

The American Tennis Association-First Black Sports Organization

History of the tennis racket at Wimbledon - 06th July 2006

Well most people know about Venus and Serena Williams
in the tennis area. But I’m bringing you some new info.
Its time to hear about some other people who deserve
recognition. Therefore you have the American
Tennis Association:
July 22, 1916 was the start of a beautiful thing-The American
Tennis Association. IT was the first black sports organization
in America and formed by African American businessmen
college professors, and physicians.
The ATA is known for being the MEcca for blacks from
all walks of life who enjoy the competition and camaderie.
It was offered for ages 8-80. (What a big range! Wonderful!)
I’m will now give you the objectives of this magnanimous
organization:
      1. Bringing black tennis lovers and players to close relations
         (It’s a beautiful unity)

      2. Improve on standards of existing clubs
(Its always great to encourage other things and
           inspire others to do great.)

      3. Hold annual national championship tournaments

      4. Regulating the dates of local as well as regional
         tournaments to eliminate conflicts.

       5. Appointing referees and officials for each event;
also to promote the standard of the game among
        black players.
THe American Tennis Association held its first ATA
National Championship at Baltimore’s Druid Hill
Park in August of 1917.
Now, In August of each year, several 1,000 players
compete in more than 50 different events
at the yearly ATA National Championships in
different locations. The ATA is the epitome
of growing, African American big-bucks demographic
that has helped turn the tennis field into
a multi-billion dollar business.
(Its awesome they laid out their objectives so you
know what they wanted besides the obvious)

Joe Walcott- Black Boxer (master of the ring)

Joe Walcott- Black Boxer (master of the ring)

boxing gloves

I always enjoy informing about black history stuff.

So I’m getting to different areas and occupations of

black people in history and today. I’ve done mostly

black inventors articles and Whoa! There are alot

of black inventors. So happy to know about them!

But now I present to you one of the great black

boxers who mastered the ring!

A black man named Joe Walcott was born March 13,

1873. He was from Barbados, British West Indies.
Joe came to America in 1887 and lived and fought
in Boston Massachusetts. Walcott was 5-1 and a half
and 133-148 pounds. Yes, he was short and a squat
fighter with long arms and a very powerful punch.
(Baam !)msn smileys
His other wonderful fighting qualities is that
he is quick and durable. Joe Walcott is known
as the pound for pound fighter in boxing history.
The men he fought were both lightweight and
heavyweight. (See, very versatile. He was always
up for the challenge. He did not limit himself and
that’s all good for him)
A variety of sports writers rank Walcott as the #1
all time Welterweight. Joe was inducted to the
Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1955 and the
International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991.
They gave him the nickname Barbados Demon.
(That’s quite a name! WOW!)

Jesse Owens, a Black man- Olympic Gold Medalist

Jesse Owens, a Black man- Olympic Gold Medalist

Jesse Owens - Olympic Gold Medalist

African AMerican Jesse Owens was born September

12, 1913. He was an African-American sprinter with a history
of being one of the greatest track-and-field athletes of all
time. His exact name is James Cleveland Owens and he
was born in Danville, Alabama. Also, he was educated
in Ohio State University (which explains what his Ohio shirt
represents on the website)
Olympic Track Numbers:
Owens competed in interscholastic track meets
in high school. James excelled in the running broad
jump, the 100-yd dash as well as  the 220-yd dash.
He was a member of the Ohio State University
track squad in 1935 and established a world record
of 26ft 8, in for the running broad jump. Come 1936,
he set a new world record of 10.2 sec
for the 100-m dash.
A member of the U.S track team in 1936 Olympic
Games in Berlin,he won 4 gold medals.
Owens won the 100-m dash in 10.3 seconds
which is the Olympic record.
Then he set a new Olympic and world record of 20.7 sec
in the 200-m dash. To top that off, he won
the running broad jump with a leap of
26ft 5-in. That put him at a new Olympic record.
( Its great that he brung so much energy and effort
into Olympics. I admire the way he kept setting new records.)
It keeps going, he was also a member of the
U.S. 400-m relay team that year, which an
even newer Olympic and world record of 39.8 sec.
          Despite of James’ wonderful athletic
performances, Adolf Hitler refused to recognize
his Olympic victories because Owens
was black.
My comments: Even though Adolf Hitler (racist fool)
did not want to acknowledge his acheivements, it was as if James
ran over, squashed, flattened out his theories. Adolf Hitler, must have
been hurt to find out about James being so skilled but so
what. Hitler is in denial, but nothing changes the truth-
Jesse Owens is one of the best in Olympics.
Oh, I’m so happy I know about this site where I got this information from:
