Well, here’s what I learned about Mass COmmunications in the form of a Sample Resume!

Mass Communications is one of the most interesting careers
a person could have. Oh yes! According to me, charismaallover.
Why? Because I’m a writer and I like to communicate in many
different aspects as you can see. I’m always trying to
get a message out. There’s so many careers in the world I would never
do and one that would make my day to get involved in–Mass
Communications.

I was talking with my brother. He’s always checking up on me.
He was asking me did I know that there are people with college
degrees not able to get into their field of study? I said why?
He replied ” Sometimes a degree is not enough. You have
to have additional skills”. Well, I guess they don’t want
to make it easy on people. They don’t want people
to just think that they can just get skills in one
aspect. I’m always thinking about the topics
that are helpful, entertaining and information.
But back to my brother, he suggested I look
up sample career resumes.

So I looked up the Mass COmmunications Resume

The sample resume showed a high gpa for the major and
that the person was in the Public Relations Student Society
of AMerica.

THey had achieved a 4th year level of Spanish conversation
and literature knowledge.

I was told that knowing a foreign language really helps when you
want to get hired for a job.

They created their own personal website.
They created a brochure for a well known organization.
THen they interviewed people, wrote a copy of
the organization key concepts of fun, diversity
and communication.

Producing fliers, posters, newspaper ads, annual brochures
for campus wide distribution was on the list of things this
person did. This person publicized monthly social and
educational meetings.

This person talked about awards, rewards they received.

Skills listed was adobe photoshop, quarkexpress, html,
Excel, Powerpoint, Word.

Digital 35 mm, video photography

Associated Press style, proofreading,
editing text from multiple contributors into whole

A Good amount of spoken and written Spanish

Well, I see what this person has for extra skills. Me personally, I want
to obtain those same skills. I only know a little of MS Word, Powerpoint,
Excel, it’s all basic. I would like to learn more. I myself know high school
Spanish and College French. The college I would like to attend has
a 4th level of French and Spanish. I’ve always wondered how could
I be fluent in those languages. But anyone looking to learn foreign

           What a difference writing can make! A letter , a word,
sentences……….The arrangement of text.  I enjoy it.
So I can definitely relate to this person’s area of expertise
because writing is what I enjoy. Now this black journalist
came through. He made a move and made big and great
things happen. The writer I’m referring to is: Les Payne
        Les Payne, is a black journalist and author born
July 12, 1941 in Tuscaloosa, ALabama.
Payne’s acheivements include:
  • Graduating from the University of Connecticut
  • Received a BA degree in English
  • Six years in the Army
  • Covered the Black Panther Party
  • Won a Pulitzer Prize for The Heroin Trail in 1974
  • Nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in foreign Reporting
  • Reported from Africa, Europe, The Carribean and the United Nations
             Les Payne is one of the founders as well as former
presidents of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Therefore he has used that to improve media fairness
as well as employment practices.
                Payne has received several awards, and they are:
  • United Nations’ World Hunger Media Award
  • 3 Unity Awards for investigative reporting
  • The Ace Award for interview with Mayor David Dinkins on Les Payne’s New York Journal
                      My comments:
Well I have heard about the United Nations World Hunger issues and
found out about a list of goals they have on the their site. Hunger is just
one issue. I’m so happy to see him making a difference with
hungry people.

        Its  a fortunate thing to have your own business. Do you want a business?What particular one? Well, I know of a particular site that helps African Americans in business and I say hurray! Anyone can give

to support black business, but its really important that black people

give back to black business. Now, I will carry on with this lovely

black business site.

             Workshop in Business Opportunities was established in 1966

in Harlem. It’s a private non-profit organization to help

men and women become successful entrepreneurs. WIBOs goal

is to enable small business owners and budding entrepreneurs

from under-served communities to obtain financial success

by starting, operating and building successful businesses. Also,

to give those businesses economic power, provide jobs, and

improve communities.

          WIBO offers numerous services involving the 16 week

 workshop. Additonal help they provide is personalized

 business coaching, legal and accounting clicnics,

 monthly seminars, networking

events, and other business support activities.

           So that’s enough information to get you started.

Black Businessman- Earl Graves made his mark in life

       Want your own business? Taking the steps to get one?
Well, this man has been a true inspiration to Black Business
people. But you’ll see how he still makes a difference
when you get to the end. So do remember him.
              Earl Graves is a black man of business success. He’s
an entrepreneur and activist as well. To add to that, he
was a rolemodel and mentor as well. (So he looked
out for himself and other people. That makes an even
balance scale. So, someone who achieves and helps
others. He’s the best.)
           In high school, he was a track star so he used
his athletic skills to help with tuition and working
as a lifeguard at Morgan State University. There
he managed several campus businesses and
joined many campus organizations.
  •           He got his BA degree in economics in 1958.
  •          Also he got the ROTC membership.
  •         Graves became a second lieutenant in the US Army.
  •        Earl Graves completed the Airborne Ranger’s School and
was captain with the Green Berets.
  •     Sold and developed real estate and in 1966
  •  Got the job as an administrative assistant on
           the staff of Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
That job involved him supervising events.
  •        Started his own  firm called Earl G. Graves Associates.

(It’s  a firm that leads corporations on urban affairs and economic development.)

    (See how Earl Graves was his own leader. He
got help from Kennedy but kept going even
when Kennedy began to Rest in Peace)
  • Contribute to the economic development of Black America.
  •  Used his own money to make a difference in the lot of the town’s Black community.
  •        Tapped into the Nixon’s Administrations effort to bring
Black people into the country’s economic development programs.
               He knew it was time to plan
develop, and produce a montly periodical
devoted to news, commentary, and articles
for Blacks interested in business.
           Earl Graves received a Ford Foundation
grant to study Black-owned business in Carribean
countries. (What an achievement and must have been
fun being in the Carribean area) He narrowed
his focus and borrowed $150,000 from the Manhattan
Capital Corporation of Chase Manhattan Bank. By
’1970, Graves presented the lenders with a working
draft of Black Enterprise.
            Graves is the  author of the book “How to
Succeed in Business Without Being White: Straight
Talk on Making it in America, 1997.
